Palestine a Moral Compass, Confrontation Between Justice and Oppression

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – Hojatoleslam Hamid Shahriari, Secretary-General of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought, stated at the international conference “Unity of the Islamic Ummah and Palestine” in Malaysia that Palestine represents the compass of truth in the world and must be recognized as a central moral and humanitarian priority.

Hawzah News Agency- Hojatoleslam Hamid Shahriari highlighted that Islamic unity is built on shared values, moderation, dialogue, and cooperation among different sects, not on uniformity. Unity does not require erasing differences but transforming diversity into strength through rational dialogue and consensus.

He described the Palestinian issue as a moral, humanitarian, and civilizational test for the Islamic world and the international community. “The issue of Palestine is not merely political; it is a fundamental confrontation between justice and oppression,” he said.

Shahriari further condemned the unprecedented destruction of homes, schools, hospitals, and the killing of civilians—including women, children, and journalists—in Gaza as morally indefensible. He added that these tragic events have heightened global awareness and fueled solidarity movements worldwide. “Today, the discourse of resistance has evolved into a global moral movement rooted in justice, ethics, and religious principles. Resistance is not simply a political stance; it is defined as an ethical and civilizational struggle,” he said.

Referring to the 12-day Israeli aggression, he stated that the Islamic Republic of Iran bore significant costs in defending national sovereignty and supporting the Palestinian cause. Targeting of scientists, military commanders, and civilians—including women and children—reflects Iran’s commitment to confronting injustice and supporting the oppressed Palestinians. He noted that Iran’s operations during the 12-day war and the “Promised Victory” campaign weakened the Israeli regime, undermined normalization projects, and caused economic losses, domestic insecurity, migration of settlers, security failures, and unified global protests against Israeli occupation, creating a significant strategic shift in the world.

Regarding recent events in Iran, Shahriari affirmed that foreign-backed attempts to destabilize the country and incite internal unrest have failed. Sabotage, violence, and externally supported disturbances were neutralized by the Iranian nation’s steadfast defense of sovereignty and resistance.

The Secretary-General also criticized Western powers for double standards in human rights, stating that claims of defending human rights are contradicted by ongoing support for oppression and war crimes. “Some global powers exhibit modern forms of imperial arrogance and unilateralism,” he said.

The regional conference of the Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought was organized with participation from the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought, the Malaysian Islamic Organizations Consultative Council (MAPIM), global and Malaysian coalitions and unions, the Secretariat of Asian Regional Scholars, and the Cultural Counsellor of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Malaysia, with scholars and thinkers from ASEAN countries attending.
